This course is a mixture of theory and practical learning and is aimed at students with an interest in sport and physical activity. Students will develop their application of participation, interpersonal skills, and leadership through a range of physical activities, including Badminton, Volleyball, Tchoukball and Ti Uru.  Anatomy, Biomechanics and Exercise Physiology will also be applied to a chosen context as well. The new NCEA standards are applied meaning each achievement standard is worth five credits. There will also be an offsite optional rafting challenge day on the Taieri river in Term One.

Term 1
Unpacking the year.
Achievement Standard 1.2
(5 Credits) Internal Evidence Gathering
Demonstrate understanding of how kotahitanga is promoted in movement through application of interpersonal strategies.
Mostly practical based.
Offsite optional rafting challenge day on the Taieri river.

Term 2
Achievement Std 1.1
(5 Credits) Internal Evidence Gathering
Apply movement strategies in an applied setting such as badminton and then produce a short video using Capcut (or similar) to present your work.

Term 3
Achievement Std 1.3
(5 Credits) External
Mostly practical lessons based around a chosen context such as volleyball.
Demonstrate understanding of the influence of a personal movement experience (such as volleyball) on Hauora.

Term 4
Preparation for Year 12 PE
Understanding our bodies - The body is made for moving.
Develop a basic understanding of functional anatomy, biomechanics and exercise physiology.

Recommended Prior Learning

A reasonable standard of fitness and a genuine interest in sport and physical activity as well as the ability to self-manage and regularly bring PE gear.

Equipment/Stationery

Devices are not essential but highly recommended - please refer to the school specification requirements for a preferred device.

Assessment Information

Fully internally assessed throughout the year. Most assessment is based around practical participation in class. Therefore, there are no exams at the end of the year. The external achievement standard is still completed during class time but is then sent away to be marked and graded.

You will be assessed in this course through all or a selection of the standards listed below.

This course is eligible for subject endorsement.
