Course Description

The Level 1 Mechanical Engineering course offers students the opportunity to design and construct practical engineering projects, alongside meeting some related theory requirements. This course includes unit standards focused on health and safety, as well as the correct use of workshop equipment. Achievement standards may also be offered in certain cases. Students will develop skills in welding, lathe turning, and fabrication. The workshop is well-equipped with multiple welders, lathes, and both plasma and laser cutters. Students are expected to work independently within a self-directed programme, supported by the teaching staff.
