Level 2 Physical Education

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Ms J. Melrose.

Theory topics covered will include anatomy, biomechanics, training principles and methods, sport psychology, leadership, risk management, social responsibility, and investigating the impact of a large sports tournament e.g. Rugby World Cup, America’s Cup, Olympics. Practical activities will be from a selection of the following: rail trail, Naseby mountain bike tracks, white water rafting, table tennis, and adventure-based learning.

The content of the course is approximately 40% practical and 60% classroom based using a variety of teaching methods. Some time beyond the classroom will be required for trips and field work.


Course Costs:

A course enrichment opportunity for AS91330 and AS91333 exists where students can attend a four day mountain biking trip to Central Otago concluding in the mountain biking tracks of Naseby which would require a payment of $300 (estimate) before commencement of the trip.

Recommended Prior Learning

Students can take this course if they have either gained an Achieved grade or better in the Achievement Standard 90963 - Demonstrate understanding of the function of the body as it relates to the performance of physical activity (anatomy, biomechanics and exercise physiology) 

or if they have gained a Merit or Excellence endorsement in Level One Physical Education. 

If students have not met these requirements, they can still request to enter this course via a discussion with Mr King.


In addition, strength in Level One Science would be expected along with a good level of fitness and a genuine interest in sport, physical activity and the outdoors.
