Level 3 Mechanical Engineering
Course Description

The Level 3 Mechanical Engineering course offers students the opportunity to design and construct practical engineering projects while meeting related theory requirements. Students are introduced to CAD design programs and drawings. This course builds on the skills learned at Levels 1 and 2 and includes unit standards focused on design, as well as the correct use of workshop equipment and machinery. Achievement standards may also be offered towards University Entrance. Students will develop skills in welding, lathe turning, and fabrication. The workshop is well-equipped with multiple welders, lathes, and both plasma and laser cutters. Students are expected to work independently within a self-directed programme, supported by the teaching staff.
Recommended Prior Learning
Completion of the Level Two Mechanical Engineering course is recommended.

Dependent upon the choice of project by the student additional costs may be incurred for materials.
