Level 3 Business Mathematics
Course Description
Teacher in Charge: Miss E. Jeffery.
Topics covered are a mixture of Level 3 standards from calculus and statistics. Topics may include Bivariate Data Investigation, Probability Concepts, Systems of Equations, Linear Programming, and Time Series.
This course will allow the students to get 14 credits internally for University Entrance.
Course Overview
Term 1
Bivariate Analysis followed by Time Series
Term 2
Time Series followed by Linear Programming
Term 3
Linear Programming followed by Simultaneous Equations
Term 4
Probability Concepts. It is highly recommended that students purchase the D and D booklet for revision in preparation for sitting the final NCEA External examination in November.
Recommended Prior Learning
Students need to have Level One Numeracy and Literacy. Students without Level Two Literacy will likely struggle with this course as it involves writing two 1800 word reports.
Equipment/Stationery
It is expected that students will have their own pens, pencils, rulers, erasers, 1E5 or 1E8, and a graphics calculator. It is strongly recommended that they purchase the workbooks: Walker Maths Time Series, Walker Maths Bivariate Analysis, Walker Maths Linear Programming and Walker Maths Simultaneous Equations. It is also highly recommended that students purchase the D and D booklet for revision in term 4 in preparation for sitting the final NCEA External examination in November.
Pathway
Possible career pathways: This course is designed for students who may be looking at career in scheduling, logistics, sales or management, or who would like to extend their mathematical and statistical knowledge and need Level 3 credits, but are not intending pursuing maths beyond school. This course complements Economics, Accounting and Digital Technology.
