11MTE continues to develop the seven strands of the New Zealand Curriculum covered at Year 9 and 10 as well as introducing some new topics. There is an increased focus on problem solving and the application of skills and knowledge in real-life contexts. It prepares students for future algebra-rich courses such as Calculus while not excluding Statistics by exploring a range of both mathematical and statistical concepts.

Term 1
AS 91945 (1.2) Use mathematical methods to explore problems that relate to life in Aotearoa New Zealand or the Pacific (Internal – 5 credits)
Term 2
AS 91947 (1.4) Demonstrate mathematical reasoning (External – 5 credits)
Term 3
AS 91946 (1.3) Interpret and apply mathematical and statistical information in context (External – 5 credits)
Term 4
Revision for AS 91947 (1.4)
This time can also be an opportunity to do re-assessments for 1.2 Mathematical methods if required.
Recommended Prior Learning
Completion of Year 10 Mathematics and the Level 1 Numeracy Co-requisite Examination.
Equipment/Stationery
3 x IE5 or IE8 workbooks, clear plastic ruler 300mm, pencil, eraser, ball-point pens - red, blue and black. Casio FX-9750GII Graphics calculator.
Optional Workbooks - Walker Mathematics 1.2, 1.3 and 1.4. These are highly recommended as they are a valuable resource to supplement classwork.

Two externally assessed achievement standards at Level 6 of the Aotearoa/ New Zealand curriculum with the addition of one internally assessed achievement standard.Credit Information
