Year 10 Digital Technologies

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Ms O. Liddle.

Year 10 Digital Technology is a wide ranging and challenging course that will appeal to all creative high achieving students.  Students are introduced to subjects that lead directly into higher level computing courses at Secondary School and eventually into Tertiary subjects such as Computer Science, Information Systems and Media Designs.  

 Major components of the course are desktop publishing, programming and developing a website. There are options for including animation and video also.

Topics covered will include:

Python Programming

Design Principles

Computer Science Concepts

Desktop Publishing – Publisher and InDesign

Game Development

Outcome Design/Development Cycle

Web Development - HTML and basic CSS (if time allows)

Digital photography and image editing in Photoshop (Small proportion)

Course Overview

Term 1
Outcome Development
You will use Microsoft Publisher and/or InDesign to design and develop a poster. The focus is on strong design principles and making improvements to further your outcome.

Python Programming
Learn how to code using a text-based programming language and how to use it to solve simple problems.

Term 2
Game Development
Learn how to create your own 2D game assets through pixel art
Learn how to make a 2D platform game using the Godot game engine.

Web Development - If there is time
Learn the basics of HTML and simple CSS to create a web-page.

Term 3
Outcome Development
You will use Microsoft Publisher and/or InDesign to design and develop a poster. The focus is on strong design principles and making improvements to further your outcome.

Recommended Prior Learning

It's recommended that students have completed the Year 9 computing course and/or have done some programming using Scratch or some other programming language.
