Level 3 Gateway

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Ms L. Duncan

Gateway is a TEC funded course allowing students to gain NCEA credits in the workplace. Each student is assessed and monitored in the workplace, spending one day per week in work that is relevant to their future career or training options. The class work that they miss through this placement is caught up in the remaining Gateway class time, so self-motivation and independent learning skills are essential.

Work placements are made in the career area students are interested in (or a related area) and there is a commitment to working 20 sessions during the year.  In 2020, placements may be available for students considering careers in teaching, nursing, building, hairdressing, automotive engineering, electrical, painting, hospitality and retail (other areas may be available on application).

Students will complete a first aid course and a health and safety in the workplace course.  Other assessments are determined by the industry the student is working in.

Students will be required to complete an application and undergo an interview before being considered for a place on the programme.  Acceptance to the Gateway Programme is not guaranteed.
